About Arken Built
Our approach
Arken Built is the partnership of Building Designer Anneleise Carratt and Builder Jarrod Thompson.

Deliberately boutique in scale, the practice focuses on sustainable new builds and carefully considered additions. Each project is treated as a collaboration between design and construction, offering a personalised experience from design through to approvals, quoting, and project delivery.
By combining expertise with the client’s vision, the result is a unique home that is both sustainable and thoughtfully crafted.

Design approach
At Arken Built, the design philosophy is simple: quality over quantity. Attention to detail and close collaboration are key to creating designs that reflect each client’s lifestyle. Solar passive and biophilic design principles guide the approach, supported by tools such as detailed 3D models and solar studies, which help clients visualise and refine their homes.
This hands-on process ensures every project is tailored to individual needs and sustainably crafted, blending functionality with personal touch.
Construction
At Arken Built, sustainability and quality are at the heart of every project. Every build is completely customised, giving clients the freedom to select every detail, from materials to finishes.
Clients are actively engaged in the decision-making process, enjoying regular updates and site visits that ensure their vision is seamlessly integrated throughout the project.
This collaborative approach guarantees that each home is uniquely tailored to reflect individual style and preferences.

The Arken Built Process
1 / Initial Consultation
Every project begins with a detailed on-site consultation to understand the site's conditions, context, and the client’s aspirations, budget, and priorities.
2 / Client Brief and Site Analysis
A detailed design brief is developed to define project objectives, functional needs, budget, and timeline. Site analysis is undertaken to assess opportunities and constraints, including orientation, access, vegetation, and surrounding context. A site survey and other preliminary investigations are completed to inform the design approach.
3 / Concept Development
Initial design ideas are developed in response to the brief. These are presented through 2D drawings and a 3D walkthrough to communicate layout, flow, and form. The overall direction and material palette are explored at this stage.
Check out our YouTube for examples of 3D walkthroughs
4 / Design Refinement
Once a concept is agreed upon, the design is refined to meet your needs both functionally and visually—while also aligning with budget and priorities. Material choices and detailing begin to take shape during this phase.
5 / Development Application
Arken Built manages the preparation and submission of all documentation required for Development or Complying Development approval. This includes plans, specifications, energy compliance, and coordination with consultants and council.
6 / Construction Documentation
Comprehensive drawings and specifications are prepared to guide construction. These documents are developed in line with building codes and council requirements, and provide the basis for quoting, approvals, and the build itself.
7 / Proposal
A detailed proposal is prepared, outlining scope, materials, inclusions, and costings. This ensures full transparency before construction begins, and allows time for any final adjustments to meet expectations and budget.
Clients are empowered to curate all finishes and materials, ensuring each element contributes to a home that is both considered and entirely their own.
5 / Construction
Arken Built manages the build process with close attention to detail and clear communication throughout. The designer remains actively involved, attending site as needed to ensure design intent is maintained. Regular client-focused meetings are held to keep you informed and engaged, ensuring the result is a home that is carefully built and truly lived in.
